About Me

Hi, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Cindy and I live in Western NY south of Buffalo in beautiful Chautauqua County. I started Shades ETC in 2005 after attending a lampshade making class at Fletcher Farms in VT. Judy Lake inspired me to continue making shades and Beth, who was doing craft shows encouraged me to do a craft show with her and make shades for welcome lamps. I jumped in. My first show was Peak n Peeks Fall Festival in 2005.Peek n Peak Fall Show Picture
After that I was hooked. Next I learned how to make ring shades, hardback shades, machine sewn shades, and my favorite victorian shades. After making a few, I advertised in the local Penny Saver for custom orders. I can remake any shade you have to update it and give your room a nice, new accent piece. After two years of doing craft shows at probably the worst time to start, I decided to launch a shopping cart on my website and maybe stay home more instead of doing so many craft shows. I also added beautiful treasure boxes that are used for gift giving to my handmade items. After learning how to do sugar beading on victorian shades I started making victorian suncatchers with the same sugar beading technique. I also make soap with rubber bouncy balls inside. Then my husband decided he would like to learn how to work with a wood lathe and make exotic wood pen and pencils with desksets. So that's what I've been doing. I hope you enjoy looking around my store and finding things that will brighten up your life today.
